Maybelline Color Show Street Artist Swatches and Review

Today I got my hands on Maybelline's Color Show Street Artist polishes and I was very excited to try them out! So I've got swatches, a review and plenty of pictures for you to have a look at!

Maybelline Color Show Street Artist Swatches

For a while I'd had my eye on Maybelline's Polka Dot range but couldn't find them anywhere here in the UK, so I was very happy when I found the Street Artist range in Boots.

The Street Artist top coats contain pieces of different shapes and sizes that will completely transform a plain manicure quickly and easily.

The colours I have are shown below, from left to right; White Splatter, Urban Vibe, Alley Attitude and Boombox Black.

White Splatter, Urban Vibe, Alley Attitude, Boombox Black

They're all very similar in terms of shapes and sizes of the pieces, the only difference is the colour. They contain pieces of neon shapes in blue, green or orange with black, excluding White Splatter which contains metallic and white glitter instead.

I swatched them over white as I thought it would be the best to show all of the colours, but I'm looking forward to trying them over other colours too. However White Splatter contains white pieces that obviously don't show up very well on a white base!

Both my thumb and little finger show Alley Attitude. Both only required one 'dip' into the bottle and I applied only one layer to each, however you will see that there's a massive difference in coverage. That just depends on how much pressure you apply; a light brush over with the tip of the brush will give a light scattering as shown on my little finger, whereas brushing heavily with the whole brush will give a thick coverage as shown on my thumb. I prefer the thick coverage so did this for the other polishes too. Do you prefer a light or heavy coat?

Maybelline Color Show Street Artist Top Coats

I know 'graffiti' style top coats have been around for a little while, and I don't know if it was just me but I just haven't been able to get hold of them in the UK! So I'm very happy that these are now available, but Boombox Black and Urban Vibe were both labelled 'limited edition' in Boots so I'm not sure how long they will be around.

My favourite has to be Alley Attitude, I love that shade of blue! Which is your favourite?

Review:

- Easy to apply as there's a generous amount of the 'pieces' inside the clear varnish so you don't need to fish any pieces out.

- There's a good range in terms of sizes and shapes of the pieces.

- The neon colours are eye-catching and will be great over summer.

- A very effective way to give a plain manicure a new look.

- They're long lasting; I wore mine for a week and didn't see any signs of chipping.

- They're quite difficult to remove, a bit like glitters in the way that they rip your cotton wool to pieces, but maybe not quite as tough to remove.

- £3.99 is a reasonable price.

- I'm not overly keen on White Splatter, it isn't as eye-catching as the others. It feels too similar to glitter top coats I have used before, whereas the other three are new and unique to me. Would you agree?

Overall I am very impressed with the Street Artist range, they're a great way to jazz up a plain manicure quickly and easily. Although I love nail art, I can see myself using these quite often when I don't have time for nail art but can't bear to have boring nails!

Maybelline Color Show Street Artist Swatches

I purchased these from Boots where they retail for £3.99 each, although at the moment they have a 'buy one get one half price' offer on. So go and grab them before they go, I have a feeling they're going to be quite popular! I also asked in Superdrug and they are expecting them in soon.

Let me know what you think of the Street Artist range. Are you as excited about them as I am?

  1. Love these, thanks for showing them off so well! I think my favourite is Boombox Black from these pics, I love the neon bits, they really pop! I'm not meant to be buying any new polishes for the foreseeable future because I have so many untried ones, but I might have a little look at these next time I'm in Boots :-)

  4. I purchased mine from superdrug about 2 or 3 days ago. I got alley attitude and I am LOVING it. I think it would also go nice on a dark blue or black base as well as white. Not sure but I'm going to experiment and give it a try!

  5. Alley attitude is definitely my favourite. I like to apply a heavy coat.
I have 2 of the polka dot polishes
They were limited edition last summer and although I love the design they peel off so easily so it's pretty annoying
The street artist range is much better!
