Barry M: Aquarium Collection Swatches & Review*

There is nothing I love more than my favourite brands releasing new nail varnish collections! Barry M really have treated us lately with the Silks, Spring Gellys and now the Aquarium polishes, so I am a very happy blogger at the moment!

Today I've got the Aquarium Collection* to show you; I've got swatches of each polish along with a review. I've also combined them all into an under-the-sea style gradient that I'm really pleased with. I hope you enjoy it!

The Aquarium collection consists of six gorgeous polishes inspired by the sea; four duo-chrome polishes and two chunky glitter top coats.

Let me introduce you...

Barry M - Aquarium Collection
L-R: Arabian, Treasure Chest, Caspian, Pacific, Mermaid, Mediterranean

Aren't they pretty?! The duo-chromes are gorgeous, you can see the shift between the two tones as you move your nails in the light. Unfortunately it is hard to capture that in pictures, but below you can see how they look in the bottle where the effect is easier to capture.

The duo-chromes were very sheer on the first coat, I needed three coats for them to be completely opaque and achieve the two-tone effect. I find that these type of polishes always show brush lines, however with a top coat the imperfections disappear.

The glitter top coats compliment the duo-chromes perfectly. I like that each piece of glitter is a different size and shape because it gives a nice random scattering on the nail which I love. These gave great coverage as the clear polish is very glitter-dense. In the pictures above you can see one layer on my little finger, and two layers on my ring finger. I prefer it with just one layer, what do you think?

And finally, the gradient. The duo-chromes make the most perfect gradients! I'll definitely be recreating this, I love it.

Overall, I am very impressed with the Aquarium polishes and I know I'll be getting a lot of use out of them over the summer. The colours are beautiful, they've got me thinking of summer holidays! My favourite? Probably Pacific... or Treasure Chest!

Barry M's Aquarium polishes are now available on Barry M's website and in Superdrug, and in Boots from 19th March. Priced at £3.99 each, you can purchase them individually or get the full set for the complete 'under the sea' look.

  1. Great review, I've been tempted by mermaid and Treasure chest but never seem to have much look with the glittery top coats but these look great. I've already got Mediterranean and it really is divine! The gradient looks you created are simply stunning too! :D

  2. Hi
Could you tell me please how you created the gradients with the blue, green and glitter? It looks stunning!

    1. Thank you! :) I used a washing-up sponge and painted a nail-sized section of it with one colour, then right next to it, slightly overlapping, again a nail-sized section, the other colour. You then rub the sponge on your nail. You will need to do this about 4 times to get the colour opaque though! Then once it was dry I added the glitter over the top to the tips of my nails. Check out The Nailasaurus' tutorial on how to do gradients, she explains it a lot better! http://www.thenailasaurus.com/2012/04/gradient-nails-picture-tutorial.html
