Birchbox - September 2014 - 'Happy Days'

* SPOILER ALERT! *

Hi everyone!

Today I've got my first beauty box review to share with you and I really hope you enjoy it!

After receiving an amazing box in August I was ridiculously excited for the arrival of my September Birchbox! This month's theme is 'Happy Days', and even the cute design on the box was enough put a huge smile on my face.

I always keep hold of my Birchbox boxes and drawstring bags to store things in, but this month's box has a very special function - you can make it into a photo frame! Full instructions are provided.

So, what was inside my box?

Benefit - It's Potent! Eye Cream
You should have seen the smile on my face when I found this in my box! I've always wanted some of Benefit's products but I just can't justify the price tag, especially when I know buying one item will lead to me buying the whole range (I'm sure some bbloggers out there will understand my situation!).

Benefit's It's Potent! Eye Cream aims to preserve the elasticity of the under-eye area, fade dark circles, and keep the skin hydrated and protected, making your eyes look younger and brighter. I have really bad under-eye circles so this product sounds perfect for me.

Thank you so much Birchbox for including this in the September box!

ModelCo - Power Lash Black Mascara
This month Birchbox let us pick one of our samples (how exciting!). We could choose between a ModelCo Power Lash black mascara, Viva Lip Lacquer, or Morocco Lip Lacquer. I chose the mascara and I'm really glad I did.

It has really extended my lashes and given them some great volume. My usual mascara does a lot to define my lashes but this one beats it by a mile when it comes to lengthening. It's very pigmented and stays on well too - I'm very pleased!

I think it would have been better to take the picture from further away as you can see the effect more, so I'll add one, plus a before and after picture, next time I wear it.

Urban Fruit
This pack of 'gently baked' strawberry pieces is a little bit different and is something I wasn't expecting to receive!

They taste nice and I might think about getting some to take to Uni with me for a snack. It was nice to receive a food sample but I would't want Birchbox to make a habit out of it.

Agave - Healing Oil Treatment
Free from parabens, sulphates, and phthalates, this oil gives the vibrancy, shine, and colour of your hair a much needed boost as well as increasing strength and moisture. Apparently it can be used as a body oil too!

To use it you warm a small amount in your hands and distribute it evenly through damp hair. I used it from the middle to the ends of my hair although the instructions say to use it on your roots as well. I was worried that it would make my roots look greasy but it's actually very light and it didn't leave any residue on the lengths of my hair, it all just seemed to soak in, so I'll try using it on my roots next time too. It smells lovely when you're applying it but once it had absorbed I could no longer smell it.

My hair does look shinier after using this but I think I'll have to use it a few more times to notice a difference in moisture and strength. Luckily the sample size was quite generous, the picture above shows how much I used from just one use.

Premae - Mild Pro Dermabrasion

This vegan-friendly scrub containing olive granules is very gentle meaning it can be used on your face as well as your body. I liked using it on my face as it didn't leave my skin feeling dry afterwards, and it felt more radiant. When I used it on my body I was a bit disappointed as it wasn't as 'gritty' as I would have liked so I wasn't expecting to notice a difference afterwards, however my skin did feel a lot smoother, especially on my shoulders where I have been getting some spots lately.

Korres - Citrus Body Milk

I was quite excited about trying this as I love citrus scented body lotions. The formula is lightweight and soaks in almost instantly, I love that in a body lotion as I hate having to wait around for it to absorb before I can get dressed! It contains almond oil, aloe, shea butter, and provitamin B5, and is free from parabens and silicones.

My skin felt really smooth after using this however I was a bit disappointed by the scent. I have another body lotion that I got from Birchbox a couple of months ago and I loved it so much that I bought a full sized bottle from their eShop, and I do prefer that one to this one. That's not to say I won't be using up all of this one though as it is really nice, and the sample size is very generous so I will be getting a lot of uses out of it!

A little extra...
Birchbox gave us a Happy Days photo clip to put pictures of our happiest memories in. I have put a picture of my dog Dylan in mine and will be displaying it on my desk - this picture always makes me smile, he's just so cute!

Birchbox also teamed up with Photobox to give us some discounts so we can print off our own happiest memories!

Overall...
Another amazing box from Birchbox this month and once again I am a very happy customer. My favourite product from the box is the ModelCo PowerLash mascara, although I'm also loving Benefit's It's Potent eye cream.

If you want to find out more about each of the products then just click on the title for each product throughout the post (if that makes sense?!).

If you're tempted to get your own Happy Days Birchbox then there's still plenty of time, you've got up until the end of September (I think!) to buy it from the Birchbox website.

If you've already received your box then I'd love to know your thoughts on it. Did you get any different samples?

I hope you have enjoyed my first beauty box review! If you've got any suggestions for improvements for my next one then please let me know - either leave me a comment or send me an email using the button on the sidebar :)
