Inspired by The Nailasaurus - Watercolour Gradient

Today I've got some nail art inspired by the amazingly talented Sammy from The Nailasaurus. One of her most recent designs, Watercolour Gradient, really caught my eye; I'm really into gradients at the moment and this new approach looked like a lot of fun to do, plus the colour scheme she used is so beautiful and got me thinking of the beach. You can take a look at her design and find her tutorial here.

Here's my take on the Watercolour Gradient...

It didn't really turn out the way I'd hoped; it actually looks very different to Sammy's. With hers you can see the brush lines going across the nail and the transition between colours stands out much more than it does with mine. I think I over-blended the colours, and maybe it would have been better if I used colours that weren't so similar?

The polishes I used were all OPI: Aloha from OPI, Cajun Shrimp, Is Mai Tai Crooked?, and Do You Take Lei Away? You can see my swatches of the Hawaii shades here.

Overall I'm a bit disappointed with my design but I loved the technique and will definitely be giving it another go! What colour scheme should I go for next time?

  1. The transition between the colors is really nice, I like the final effect, it is very artistic. The colors are beautiful together!

  2. I really like this design actually, I love the colours you opted for!
